Commander Ender (Andrew) Wiggin was the epitome of a good leader within the novel. What made him a good leader was the qualities that he possesed throughout his command of his army.
What qualifies Ender as a GOOD leader:
-
He uses stratagey, things that other leaders taught him (or didn't), or for example how Graff manipulated him, he did the same to Bean.
-
He doesn't fold under the pressures and stress that comes with being a leader.
-
Compassion was the main quality that he has, and to be a good effective leader that is the main thing you need. This theme runs throughout Ender's life. His compassion saves him from himself in the end.
-
He plays the game so well because of his ability to understand the enemy and inspire his loalty.
-
His ruthlessness, or ability to fend for himself when no one would help him, made him strong.
-
He made decisions based on what/when he felt was right for his army.
-
His humanity, or ability to feel as others did made him think in different perspectives.
I feel that to be a true good leader you have to express the right qualities for the trait. I feel that they should be expressed exactly the way that Ender does with his army. A leader should listen to the voices of his people and consider that in making a decision. That person should stand out and most importantantly stand UP for what they think is right, even if they have to do it alone.
